How Each System Works
A diesel (or gas) burner fires into a stainless heat exchanger; booth air passes over it and never touches combustion gases. Heat-up is fast and the kilowatts are cheap where fuel is cheap. Electric heating banks resistance elements in the air stream: silent, clean, no flue, no fuel logistics — and every kilowatt shows up on the meter.
The Cost Math That Matters
A car booth in bake mode draws roughly 80–120 kW of heat. At one bake cycle per day, the annual energy gap between diesel and electric can pay for the burner system several times over in high-electricity markets — while in cheap-power regions (or solar-heavy sites) electric wins on simplicity and maintenance. Duty cycle is the multiplier: occasional bakers can afford electric convenience; production shops usually can’t.
Beyond Price per kWh
- Grid capacity: electric bake needs a supply many small workshops simply don’t have; a burner runs on a lighting-sized connection.
- Regulation: some districts restrict flues or fuel storage — check before you fall in love with diesel.
- Maintenance: burners want annual nozzle and electrode service; elements mostly just age.
- Waste heat recovery: either system benefits from the recirculation damper in bake mode — that flap saves more energy than the heater choice.
